Professor Dodwell is a senior breast oncologist with a number of research and governance activities. He is the lead oncologist on the Sloane, NHS screening & national HQIP breast cancer audits. We have published data on diagnostic processes, patterns of care, variability in surgical, endocrine and radiotherapeutic interventions, recurrence and mortality. I have responsibility for communication, analysis, presentation, publication and outlier management.
Professor Dodwell is a senior research fellow within the EBCTCG – a co-operative group with an international reputation for practice-changing meta-analyses, and a member of steering groups for 12 ongoing UK trials in breast cancer. He sits on the trial management committees for 3 trials.
Professor Dodwell is the UK lead for the SACT project (UK chemotherapy database) and chairs the clinical group, which provides input and advice to this project to examine the safety, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of chemotherapy used in England. This has a current focus on the assessment of early chemotherapy mortality, outcomes following the use of CDF drugs, ascertainment and data quality, the treatment of older patients, outcomes in the context of BMI, and the variable uptake of chemotherapy according to socio-economic status, age , proximity to hospital and stage.
